The Catholic Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, Cardinal Peter Ebere Okpaleke, has praised the late Dr. Mrs. Obianuju Okoye, former Secretary of the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, for her remarkable contributions to humanity.
Cardinal Okpaleke gave the commendation during the burial Mass for the deceased at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Etti, Nanka, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
In his homily, the Cardinal said the value of a person’s life should not be measured by longevity but by the positive impact made on humanity.
He described the late Dr. Okoye as a medical professional who devoted her talents to improving the lives of people, particularly the poor and less privileged.
“Late Dr. Obianuju Okoye has run a good race by using her talent to serve humanity and touching lives,” he said, urging wealthy Nigerians, politicians and leaders to prioritise the welfare of the people rather than personal interests.
The deceased’s husband, Barrister Clifford Iloegbune Okoye, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Aguata Branch, said his wife lived a life dedicated to humanity.
He said the vacuum created by her death would be difficult to fill in the lives of her children, family and himself.
The Chairman of the NBA Aguata Branch, Chief Anugo Offor, and former ASMATA Chairman and ex-member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Okwudili Ezenwankwo, also described the deceased as a virtuous woman who used her profession to touch many lives.
They urged the Okoye family to bear the loss with fortitude and prayed for the repose of her soul.
The burial ceremony featured tributes from family members, friends and professional colleagues, as well as cultural dances, musical performances and condolence messages.
