The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, on Friday, October 2, 2026, led the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, and other top government officials, security agencies and critical stakeholders on an on-the-spot assessment of crisis-affected areas in Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities.
The visit was part of ongoing efforts to stabilise the situation, protect lives and property, restore peace and prevent further escalation of the crisis.
The delegation assessed the security situation on the ground, confirmed the fatal injury sustained by a victim, inspected the extent of property destruction and reviewed the impact of the crisis on residents of the affected communities.
The assessment also provided stakeholders with an opportunity to identify immediate and sustainable measures for restoring peace, strengthening security and preventing further breaches of law and order.
Speaking during the visit, CP Oji Ama reiterated the commitment of the Anambra State Police Command to maintaining law and order and protecting the lives and property of residents.
He urged the people of Aguleri and Umuoba Anam to remain calm and avoid actions capable of worsening the situation, while calling on them to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could assist ongoing security operations and peace-building efforts.
The Deputy Governor, Dr Ibezim, similarly appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, youth organisations, town unions and other stakeholders to work with the government and security agencies towards achieving lasting peace in the area.
He stressed that security was a shared responsibility requiring the cooperation and commitment of all stakeholders.
The Police Command assured residents of Aguleri and Umuoba Anam that appropriate security measures were being put in place to stabilise the affected areas and prevent further breaches of peace.
The Command also said efforts were ongoing to address the underlying issues through dialogue and other lawful channels.
