A lecturer in the Department of Business Education, Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Dr. Gabriel Alonta, has been honoured with the Best Male Lecturer of the Year award by the Association of Technology and Vocational Education Students (AVOCEDS).
The award was announced during the association’s maiden Award and Dinner Night, where students voted to recognise lecturers who have distinguished themselves in teaching, mentorship and dedication to academic excellence.
Alonta emerged winner after securing the highest number of votes cast by the students.
Although he was unable to attend the ceremony due to an official engagement, the award plaque was later presented to him in his office by AVOCEDS President, Comrade Paul Okoli, alongside the association’s Director of Socials, Onyedikachi Chukwudi.
Expressing gratitude, Alonta described the recognition as one of the greatest honours any lecturer could receive because it came directly from the students.
He dedicated the award to the students and his colleagues, saying it would motivate him to continue supporting students’ academic and personal development while promoting excellence in teaching and mentorship.
He also recalled receiving the Vice-Chancellor’s Best Academic Staff Award in 2023, describing the latest honour as especially meaningful because it reflects the appreciation and confidence of the students he serves.
