ADC candidate, John Nwosu swears affidavit: “I’ll serve only one term”

In an unprecedented political move, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Anambra State, Mr John Chuma Nwosu, has sworn an affidavit before a court pledging to serve only one term if elected governor in the forthcoming November 8 election.

Nwosu, who hails from Nnewi in Anambra South Senatorial Zone, the same zone as the incumbent governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, took the oath on Thursday at the High Court in Awka, affirming his commitment to uphold Anambra’s long-standing zoning arrangement which rotates the governorship among the state’s three senatorial zones.

The ADC flagbearer reiterated that his intention is to complete the remaining single term for the South before power naturally returns to Anambra Central in the spirit of equity and fairness.

Speaking to journalists after swearing the affidavit, Nwosu said his decision was driven by integrity and a genuine desire to redefine leadership in the state.

“I came into this race to serve, not to rule. I have now sealed that promise before the court. Four years is enough to deliver real transformation if there’s sincerity of purpose, ”he said.

Political analysts have described Nwosu’s action as bold, principled, and refreshing, especially in a political environment where leaders often seek to cling to power beyond their initial mandate.

Observers believe that if Nwosu’s pledge is kept, it could set a new standard of accountability and political honor in Anambra’s democratic journey, while ensuring that the governorship rotation principle remains intact for peace and stability in the state.
