The candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for the upcoming November 8 governorship election in Anambra State, Chief Dr George Moghalu has dispelled the rumours that Mr Peter Obi has left the LP, assuring that Obi would campaign for the party in the guber election.

Chief Moghalu made the clarification in Awka, Tuesday when he inaugurated his campaign council in readiness for the election.

He said that the rumours about Obi leaving the LP was being disseminated by those who were afraid of the growing strength and popularity of the party which he said is now poised to win the 2025 governorship election in Anambra.

“The rumour is being spread by those afraid of the acceptability and popularity of the party in the State and elsewhere.

“Our leader, Mr Peter Obi has said he is going to campaign for Labour Party. He said he will be around for LP campaign in Anambra State.

“On the issue of ADC coalition, that is against 2027 general election. I don’t know why people are afraid, looking for where to hang their jackets, “Chief Moghalu added.

Earlier, he announced the officers of the campaign council in Anambra South with their various portfolios out of the three senatorial zones, leaving out leaders of the council in Anambra North and Central who he said would be named after consultations.

The Moghalu/Ifeoma Okaro campaign organization which has Arch Okey Chukwuogo as its Director General is charged to work hard to win the election in first position.

Chief Moghalu told members of the campaign council that they were expected to achieve nothing less than victory for the governorship seat as second position would be as good as nothing.

“Preach like members of the Jehovah’s witness in your efforts to get voters. Ransack the 21 local government areas and 326 wards in Anambra State.

“Our target is not second but first position. What the LP is bringing on board will stop ‘Ndi Akodo’. We are bringing a government that would ensure democracy dividends in the true sense of that, “he charged.

He noted that removing an incumbent Governor from office is not a tea party but said that the LP is resolved to win.

Deputy national Chairman of the LP, Mr Clement Ojukwu told the party members especially those assigned with duties in the campaign council to work for the victory of the party in the coming election.

He said they should not think about the immediate gains from the party but what they would benefit in the long-run.

The LP’s deputy governorship candidate, Mrs Okaro who was led into the venue by scores of women with solidarity songs assured that women in the State would support LP and their own and expect the best government that would not joke with their welfare.
