The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter, has commended the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka, Anambra State, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, for her contributions to the development of the health sector.
The NMA made the commendation when its executives, led by the Chairman, Dr. George Ebong, paid a courtesy visit to the CMD.
The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to celebrate Umeakuewulu’s appointment and acknowledge the confidence reposed in her by the Anambra State Government.
Ebong described the CMD as a shining star and commended Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for appointing one of the association’s members to lead the tertiary health institution.
He expressed confidence that Umeakuewulu, as the hospital’s first female CMD, would leave a lasting mark on the institution, noting her commitment and determination to improve healthcare delivery.
Responding, Umeakuewulu thanked the delegation and expressed appreciation to Governor Soludo for the confidence reposed in her.
She also commended the Governor’s development agenda, particularly Vision 2070 and its focus on strengthening the state’s health sector.
The CMD highlighted some achievements recorded under her administration, including the transition to electronic health records, renovation and facelift of hospital facilities, installation of oxygen piping at the Accident and Emergency Department, improvements in emergency care and preparations for the hospital’s Paediatrics accreditation exercise.
She also expressed gratitude to the Governor for the fully equipped Solution Trauma Centre, describing it as a major boost to COOUTH’s capacity to provide timely and effective emergency and trauma care.
Umeakuewulu attributed the progress at the hospital to the dedication of its workforce, strategic leadership and sustained government support.
She reaffirmed her commitment to improving patient experience and ensuring that COOUTH continues to provide efficient, compassionate and quality healthcare services.
The visit ended with a tour of the hospital’s facilities and ongoing projects, during which the delegation inspected some of the recent infrastructural developments.
