President of the Mothers’ Union, Province of the Niger and Diocese of Awka, Dr. Mrs. Martha Chioma Ibezim, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity and improve the welfare of Nigerians.
Speaking during the 40th Awka Diocesan Women Conference (ADWOC) 2026 and the 3rd Diocesan Mothers’ Union Conference at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Awka, Dr. Ibezim expressed concern over rising insecurity, economic hardship and the high cost of living across the country.
She described kidnapping, banditry and communal conflicts as major threats to national peace and urged the Federal Government to secure the release of the kidnapped students and teachers of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, Oyo State.
According to her, many Nigerian families are struggling with inflation, unemployment and soaring prices of fuel, food and other essential commodities.
“We are calling for transparent, accountable and people-oriented governance that will address the pressing needs of the nation and restore confidence in leadership,” she said.
Addressing Governor Soludo, Dr. Ibezim urged his administration to strengthen security, promote inclusive governance and sustain infrastructure and human capital development.
She also commended the governor’s achievements in road construction, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship and education, congratulating him and Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim on the commencement of their second term.
She thanked Archbishop of the Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Alexander Chibuzo Ibezim, as well as members of the conference planning committee, clergy and volunteers for the successful hosting of the event.
In his sermon, Archbishop Ibezim urged women to remain united, disciplined and committed to protecting the values of their families, warning against actions that could expose family secrets or create division.
The conference, which also marked the 150th anniversary of the Mothers’ Union in Nigeria, attracted over 1,000 women from across the province. It was held from June 25 to 28, 2026, under the theme: “I Press Toward the Mark for the Prize of the High Calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14).
