Catch Them Young Community Initiative (CATYCOI) has called for greater recognition of young people as active partners in development rather than mere beneficiaries of government and community programmes.

Executive Director of CATYCOI, Nonso Orakwe, made the call during the Quarterly Youth LGA Dialogue Session held in Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to him, meaningful youth participation is crucial to building inclusive and sustainable communities.

“Platforms like this provide young people the opportunity to contribute ideas, influence decisions, and take ownership of the development process,” he said.

Orakwe urged youths to remain actively involved in community affairs, civic activities, and leadership opportunities, stressing that collective action is key to achieving positive change.

Also speaking, Councillor representing Fegge Ward 1, Hon. Chidi Ogbuagu, commended the initiative for fostering dialogue between youths and community leaders.

He emphasized the importance of youth engagement in grassroots governance, noting that young people have a vital role to play in shaping policies and addressing local challenges.

The dialogue brought together youths and community stakeholders to discuss community development, leadership, civic participation, and practical solutions to local challenges.
