The Anambra State Government has intensified preparedness measures against the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) following concerns over recent outbreaks in parts of Africa.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, gave the assurance during a stakeholders’ meeting in Awka, where health officials and partners reviewed the state’s readiness to respond to any suspected Ebola case.
Obidike emphasized the need for heightened vigilance, public awareness, and strict adherence to preventive measures, noting that early reporting and community cooperation are critical to preventing the spread of the disease.
Health experts at the meeting highlighted key preventive measures, including regular hand hygiene, prompt reporting of suspected cases, and strict infection prevention protocols.
The state’s efforts align with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)’s national Ebola preparedness framework, which requires states to strengthen surveillance, designate isolation centres, and assess response capacities.
Stakeholders also reaffirmed their commitment to enhanced coordination, public sensitisation, and rapid response mechanisms to ensure the state remains prepared for any potential outbreak.
