The President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has praised the leadership of the Onitsha Branch of the Bar for what he described as exemplary and visionary governance.

Osigwe made the commendation on Wednesday during the commissioning of a new Premier Bar Lounge, gym, and cloakroom facility built by the branch in Onitsha, Anambra State.

He urged other NBA branches across Nigeria to emulate the Onitsha Branch, noting that while branches receive 20% of practicing fees, many fail to channel such funds into meaningful development.

According to him, the Onitsha Bar has demonstrated effective leadership and resource management.

Chairman of the project committee and former Attorney General of Anambra State, Hon. E. D. Chukwuma, said the project was conceived in 2024 and executed without external financial burden on members. He described it as a landmark achievement in the history of the branch.

On his part, the branch chairman, Barr. Afam Obi, said leadership should be measured by lasting impact rather than tenure, adding that the project represents identity, unity, and continuity for the Bar.

Judges, Senior Advocates of Nigeria, and other legal practitioners who attended the commissioning also commended the initiative, describing the Onitsha Branch as a model for other branches in the South-East.
