Non-indigenes living in Anambra State have expressed dissatisfaction over their exclusion from the list of 18 commissioner-nominees submitted by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to the State House of Assembly.
The list, forwarded to Speaker Somtochukwu Udeze, has been referred to the House Committee on Screening and Election Matters for consideration.
Reacting through their umbrella body, the Association of Non-Indigenes Welfare of Anambra State, members lamented what they described as continued marginalisation.
Their leader, Comrade Kolawole Oluyemi, said the omission contradicts earlier assurances that the administration would be inclusive.
He argued that non-indigenes played a significant role in the governor’s electoral victory and have contributed substantially to the state’s economy over the years.
However, the association’s President-General, Chief Ikechukwu Ugwuoke, urged members to remain calm, noting that the released names represent only the first batch.
He expressed optimism that the government would still accommodate non-indigenes in future appointments.
The group also highlighted its economic impact, claiming non-indigenes account for a large share of business activities and revenue generation in the state.
