A Nigerian professor, Adaeze J.U.N.I. Menakaya, has received a United Nations peace award for the second time, in recognition of her contributions to global peace, gender equality, and women’s empowerment.
She was honoured during the 59th session of the United Nations Commission on Population and Development held at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Menakaya has earned global recognition for her advocacy in women’s rights, education in underserved communities, and faith-based empowerment initiatives.
She is also a recipient of the 2025 Global Champion of Gender for World Peace merit award.
With two PhDs in women and Christian education, as well as educational psychology and women studies, she has played key roles in several UN-related projects, including coordinating activities linked to the Mission of Grenada to the UN.
Beyond international engagements, she supports victims of domestic violence through counseling, mentorship, and outreach programmes.
Her achievements also include winning the Relevant Achievers Impacting Nations Award (Leadership Category) in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2024, and running a private school in Onitsha, Anambra State, where she promotes quality education.
Menakaya said her vision is to build a sustainable world where women are empowered, children are educated, and communities thrive.
