Easter: Archbishop Okeke Celebrates with Onitsha Inmates

By Tobias Akirika

The Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev. Valerian Maduka Okeke, has celebrated the 2026 Easter with inmates at the Onitsha Correctional Centre.

The event, held at St. Maximilian Kolbe Chaplaincy, drew both Catholic and non-Catholic faithful. In his homily titled “Understanding the Resurrection,” Archbishop Okeke urged Christians to believe without doubt, unlike Thomas who insisted on seeing before believing.

He described Christ’s resurrection as a victory for mankind, praying that God would remove obstacles in the lives of believers.

Representing the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, the Anambra State Controller of Corrections, Anselm Ike, commended the Archbishop’s consistent support for inmates, noting his long-standing tradition of celebrating major feasts with them.

Chaplain of the centre, Rev. Fr. Bartholomew Okpalaugo, praised the Archbishop’s dedication, describing him as a father figure to inmates.
Items distributed during the visit included food, toiletries, and other essentials.
