Enugwu-Agidi Community

The President-General of Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union Nigeria, Mr Ebuka Onuorah has been suspended.

The Central Executive Committee of the union announced the suspension of the PG after its emergency meeting on Thursday, November 20, 2025 on allegations of infractions and violation of some sections of the union’s Constitution.

The suspension which was signed by 87 members of the union comprising national, branches and villages executives took immediate effect.

Mr Onuorah in this connection has been requested to hand over any property of the EBU Nigeria in his possession to his Vice, Ozo Darlington Okoye within 72 hours, according to the suspension letter. Others in the interim administration are the Assistant Secretary, Echezona Egbeomu and Legal Adviser, Barr Justin Obuzo.

“This decision was taken after a careful consideration of your series of infractions and violations including but not limited to your brazen violation of EBU Nigeria National Executive Committee policy by unilaterally changing the dates of the EBU Nigeria 2025 December General Conference (Mass Return) and election to occur on December 16, 2025 instead of the last week of December.

“This disruptive decision without holding a NEC meeting is an unprecedented deviation from the long-established precedents of holding the December General Conference meeting on the last week of December usually 28 or 29.

“According to nine of the thirteen members of the current members of the EBU Nigeria NEC who have signed a letter of protest against you, you did not hold any NEC meeting before making such a crucial decision.

“Your action which contravenes  Chapter 4, Article 13(1) and Article 17(2) of our EBU constitution has thrown Enugwu-Agidi into a state of turmoil, “the statement read in part.

The exco members said the suspension would subsist pending the consideration of a 5-person committee set up to investigate the alleged infractions.

The committee is said to be headed by Hon Gozie Aniesona.

Meanwhile, the PG has reportedly received both the soft and hard copy of the letter and was quoted saying that a few people were trying to cause confusion in the community as he dismissed the suspension act.

The outcome of the emergency meeting was made available to newsmen on Sunday

However, the Anamabra State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon Tony Collins Nwabunwanne has frowned at the suspension of the Onowu of Enugwu-Agidi, Dr Osita Anameze and other members of Okpalariam Enugwu-Agidi cabinet allegedly by the PG, Mr Onuorah.

The Commissioner said the action contravened Article 44 of the Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union Constitution.

He said there was no evidence that the villages of the Onowu and other members suspended recommended for their removal. He said the act was capable of breeding tension and truncating the peace in Enugwu-Agidi community.

The Commissioner described the act as illegal, invalid and unconstitutional with total disrespect to the traditional institution of Enugwu-Agidi community.

He directed that the PG should refrain from the act.
