A Lagos-based industrialist and member of the Awka Traditional Ruler’s Advisory Council, Chief Jonathan Nzekwe (Chinyelugo), has urged Awka indigenes to put aside divisive politics and unite for peace and sustainable development of the Anambra State capital.
Nzekwe made the call shortly after his elevation, alongside eight others, as certified Cabinet Chiefs and members of the Obi Gibson Nwosu Cabinet Advisory Council.
He described the honour as a call to greater responsibility, stressing that traditional titles should promote service, humility, and commitment to community welfare.
According to him, members of the advisory council must remain close to the people and provide informed counsel to the traditional ruler to foster peace and progress.
The businessman appealed to Awka sons and daughters, both at home and in the diaspora, to support efforts aimed at restoring the town’s historical prominence and preserving its rich blacksmithing heritage.
Nzekwe emphasized that peace remains the foundation for meaningful development, warning that disunity could weaken Awka’s influence and allow other communities to surpass it.
He also commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for helping to resolve the long-standing traditional stool dispute in the community, describing the intervention as a major step toward reconciliation and stability.
“Now is the time for all Awka people to embrace unity and work together for peace, development, and prosperity,” he said.
