Traders in agony as fire destroys millions of naira worth of goods at Nnewi electronics market

About five shops were destroyed in an early morning fire outbreak on Wednesday at the electronics parts market in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The inferno, which eyewitnesses said started around 9:00 a.m., affected a one-storey building housing dealers in electronics and electrical appliances.

Goods and other property worth millions of naira were lost to the fire.

Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Fire Chief, Mr Chukwudi Chiketa, said firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene with necessary equipment to contain the situation.

“The affected building is a one-storey structure. The fire impacted about five shops located upstairs, which contained electronics and related parts.

“The good news is that the fire has been brought under control and there was no loss of life. Many other shops, both upstairs and downstairs, were successfully saved, ”he disclosed.

Chiketa said that the cause of the fire was yet to be determined and urged residents and traders to remain vigilant about fire safety.

He further advised shop owners to equip their stores with functional fire extinguishers as a preventive measure against future incidents.
