Gunmen kidnap 14 passengers, including JAMB candidates, in Benue

Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have abducted 14 passengers travelling in a Benue Links bus along the Makurdi–Otukpo road in Benue State.

The victims, mostly young people heading to Otukpo for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination, were taken during the attack which occurred between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Chairman of Otukpo LGA, Maxwell Ogiri, confirmed the incident, while the Benue State Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, said he is leading a rescue operation in the area.

Police disclosed that the bus was attacked after allegedly operating outside approved hours, as Benue Links does not run night services.

Efforts to rescue the victims are ongoing.
