Cornel Osigwe has formally declared his intention to contest for the position of Mayor of Nnewi North Local Government Area under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), pledging competent, accountable, and people-centered leadership.

Addressing party leaders, community stakeholders, youths, women, elders, and members of the press, Osigwe said his decision was guided by a deep sense of responsibility to God and the people of Nnewi.
He described the moment as pivotal, noting that while Governor Charles Soludo’s vision for a prosperous, livable, and smart Anambra State is bold and transformative, its success depends on effective leadership at the grassroots.
Osigwe emphasized that Nnewi’s vast human capital, its industry, resilience, and global influence, remains underutilized at the local government level due to gaps in effective and accountable leadership.
He said his aspiration followed wide consultations within APGA and extensive engagements across communities in Nnewi North, which convinced him that the time calls for leadership rooted in competence, integrity, and service.
Describing his aspiration as one of preparedness rather than ambition, Osigwe said he is ready to serve, work, and deliver results.
He formally declared his bid for the mayoral seat, explaining the need for leadership renewal defined by transparency, inclusion, and measurable outcomes.
He unveiled his development blueprint, “Nnewi Rising,” a practical and people-centered agenda focused on sustainable infrastructure, improved security, youth and child empowerment through skills and opportunity, and the promotion of peace and social harmony across all the four quarters of Nnewi.
According to him, public office must be a platform for service, not a reward for loyalty, aligning with Governor Soludo’s emphasis on building institutions and systems that work for the people.
Osigwe described the people of Nnewi as the area’s greatest asset and pledged to mobilize their energy, ideas, and resources to drive inclusive development, strategic partnerships, and community-owned progress.
He expressed confidence that with the right leadership, Nnewi’s best days lie ahead.
Calling his aspiration a collective movement rather than a personal project, Osigwe urged APGA to grant him the party’s mandate to contest the Championship election. He pledged to translate the State government’s vision into practical local governance, restore confidence in leadership, unite the people, and reposition Nnewi for renewed greatness.
The declaration attracted strong endorsements from APGA State leadership, community and youth leaders who spoke glowingly of Osigwe’s credentials and leadership capacity.
The State Chairman of the party, Chief Ifeatu Obi-Okoye represented by the Treasurer, Vera Nweke advised that aspirants should always have the interest of the people at heart.
President General of Ndimgbu Community, Barr C.U.Okeke praised Osigwe’s professional experience and clear vision for development, describing him as a candidate well prepared for the responsibilities of office.
Similarly, Youth President of the Nkpoka Youth Development Union, Ebuka Obiamalu expressed confidence in Osigwe’s ability to lead Nnewi North effectively, citing his track record and commitment to youth empowerment.
Other stakeholders, including Hon. Chimezie Obiaso, Mr Okonkwo Anthony Okafor, and Mr Obiora Arinzechukwu, also attested to Osigwe’s competence, accessibility, and readiness to serve.
In his closing remarks, Osigwe assured supporters that his ambition is anchored on service rather than personal gain.
He emphasized that the “Nnewi Rising” agenda seeks to mobilize the collective energy, ideas, and resources of the people including those in diaspora through inclusive governance and strategic partnerships to drive sustainable development.
