The National Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) on Thursday held a sensitization workshop at Anaedo Hall, Nnewi, aimed at enlightening employers of labour and workers in both the formal and informal sectors on the importance of enrolling in the Federal Government’s Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS).

The event was facilitated by the lawmaker representing Ekwusigo, Nnewi North, and Nnewi South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Peter Ifeanyi Uzokwe, who urged employers to key into the scheme.

Uzokwe explained that the ECS, which is fully funded by the Federal Government and backed by an Act of Parliament, is designed to provide financial protection and welfare for employees who suffer work-related injuries, diseases, or death. He also appealed to the government to increase funding for the scheme to ensure greater efficiency and wider reach.

The federal legislator lauded the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NSITF, Barr. Oluseun Faleye, and his management team for revitalizing the organization and restoring public confidence in its operations.

In his remarks, Barr. Faleye praised the industrious spirit of Nnewi people, describing their passion for enterprise and community development as a model for national growth. He reaffirmed NSITF’s commitment to extending the Employees’ Compensation Scheme to the informal sector, which he described as the “engine room of the Nigerian economy.”

Faleye appealed to members of tricycle operators’ unions, motorcycle riders, and commercial drivers to organize themselves and take advantage of the ECS benefits.

The one-day workshop featured an interactive session and practical demonstrations. Dignitaries present included Rt. Hon. Peter Anikwe, member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency; Mayor of Nnewi North LGA, Hon. Eche Anazodo; among other stakeholders from the public and private sectors.
