A former presidential aspirant and founder of the Good Leadership Movement in Nigeria and Africa, Chief Eusebius Onyemelukwe, has described former military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (retd.), as a leader whose contributions remain an important part of Nigeria’s history.
Onyemelukwe stated this in a congratulatory message to Babangida on his 85th birthday, wishing the former leader many more years in good health, peace, strength and wisdom.
He said the Babangida administration recorded notable achievements in infrastructure, national development, security, housing, transportation, power and the development of Abuja as the Federal Capital Territory.
According to him, the administration created 11 states, including Abia, Enugu, Delta, Edo, Osun, Akwa Ibom, Jigawa, Kebbi, Katsina, Taraba and Yobe.
Onyemelukwe also credited the administration with establishing or strengthening key national institutions and security agencies, including the Federal Road Safety Corps, State Security Service, National Intelligence Agency and Defence Intelligence Agency.
He highlighted major projects associated with the period, including the Third Mainland Bridge, Shiroro Hydroelectric Power Station, International Conference Centre, National Assembly Complex and ECOWAS Secretariat Headquarters, alongside roads, housing estates, hospitals, water projects and military facilities.
He urged present and future leaders to study the positive achievements of past administrations and build on them through greater investment in infrastructure, security, economic development, employment and citizens’ welfare.
Onyemelukwe further called on Nigerians to assess past leaders objectively and acknowledge their achievements where applicable.
“As General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida celebrates his 85th birthday, I join millions of Nigerians and well-wishers in celebrating a former Head of State whose contributions remain an important part of Nigeria’s history,” he said.
