Imo State Governor and Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has disclosed that the Governors of the five South-East states have resolved to work for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during a meeting with members of the Imo State Council of Elders and the State Traditional Rulers Council at the Government House, Owerri, Uzodimma said the decision was based on what the Governors consider the President’s tangible developmental achievements in the South-East.
Lists projects executed in the South-East
The governor highlighted several projects undertaken by the Federal Government, including the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt–Aba rail line, the planned reconstruction of the Eastern Rail Corridor, construction of access roads to the Second Niger Bridge and the approval of major federal highways linking Anambra, Imo and Abia states.
According to him, these projects demonstrate that the current administration has given the South-East unprecedented attention, urging the people of the region to assess the government based on visible infrastructure rather than political rhetoric.
Uzodimma also cited other initiatives such as improved federal allocations to states, student loan programmes and fiscal reforms aimed at easing trade and boosting economic activities.
‘South-East will vote based on performance’
The governor maintained that the South-East people are capable of judging leaders by their performance and would not be swayed by campaigns built on claims of marginalisation.
He said the governors were convinced that President Tinubu deserves another term in office based on his record, expressing confidence that the people of the region would make their decision at the polls in 2027.
Push for Imo Charter of Equity
Turning to state politics, Uzodimma renewed his appeal for the implementation of the Imo Charter of Equity, describing it as a critical framework for ensuring political stability, fairness and peaceful power rotation among the state’s three geopolitical zones.
He urged the Imo State Council of Elders and the Traditional Rulers Council to support the process of identifying a credible successor who would sustain the achievements of his administration
Cabinet reshuffle, youth empowerment.
The Governor also disclosed plans to reshuffle his cabinet to strengthen governance ahead of the next political phase. He reaffirmed his commitment to youth empowerment through skills acquisition and job creation while pledging continued delivery of infrastructure and development projects across the state.
Elders, monarchs endorse Governor ‘s position
Members of the Imo State Council of Elders and the Traditional Rulers Council, including HRH Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, HRH Eze Emmanuel Okeke, Chief George Egu and Ambassador Kema Chikwe, commended Uzodimma’s leadership and expressed support for the Charter of Equity.
They also pledged to continue working with the governor in the interest of Imo State, the South-East and Ndigbo, while backing sustained collaboration with the Tinubu administration.
