2027 Election: Jonathan may lose if he contests – Anambra SAN

By Tobias Akirika, Onitsha

Former President Goodluck Jonathan may struggle to win the 2027 presidential election if he decides to contest, according to Onitsha-based senior lawyer, Chief Ben Uzuegbunam (SAN).

Speaking in Onitsha, Uzuegbunam said Jonathan’s traditional support base in the South-East is likely to back Peter Obi, while many politicians in the South-South have aligned with other political parties.

He noted that Jonathan remains undecided and is still consulting widely, but argued that several political factors may discourage him from joining the race.

The senior lawyer also claimed that Jonathan’s influence in his home region has weakened, citing the growing presence of other political parties in Bayelsa, Rivers and other South-South states.

Uzuegbunam maintained that even if Jonathan is legally cleared to contest, he is unlikely to declare for the 2027 election.
