The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Anambra State Chapter, has urged widows to seek legal redress whenever their rights are violated instead of suffering in silence.
State Chairperson, Barr. Amara Muojeke, gave the advice while marking the 2026 International Widows’ Day, reminding widows that FIDA provides free legal services to support them.
She called for stronger protection of widows’ rights and greater economic empowerment, stressing that financial independence helps widows care for their families and resist exploitation.
Muojeke noted that many widows still face challenges such as harmful cultural practices, disinheritance and property grabbing despite existing legal protections.
According to her, both the Nigerian Constitution and Anambra State laws prohibit abuses against widows and guarantee their dignity and fundamental rights.
She encouraged affected widows to take advantage of available legal support and speak out against injustice.
