A 16-year-old boy, Udochukwu Nwankwo, has been arrested by operatives of the Anambra State Police Command in connection with an alleged armed robbery at a hotel in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area.
Nwankwo was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, September 2, 2026, by police operatives attached to the B Division, Amansea, during a routine security patrol.
The police also recovered a shiny metallic lighter designed to resemble a pistol, which the suspect allegedly used to threaten and dispossess a female hotel guest of her mobile phone and other personal belongings.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, preliminary investigations showed that the suspect allegedly carried out the robbery alongside two accomplices who are currently at large.
The police said the suspect, during interrogation, allegedly confessed to using the pistol-like object to threaten victims during robbery operations.
The Command has since intensified investigations and launched efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects, recover the stolen phone and other valuables, and prosecute all persons found culpable.
