Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr Nyesom Wike, has predicted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure at least 25 per cent of the votes in every state across Northern Nigeria in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike also projected that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would fail to secure 10 per cent of the votes in many states across Southern Nigeria.
The minister made the prediction during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he dismissed suggestions that President Tinubu’s support base in the North was under threat.
Wike described such analyses as unfounded, urging political observers to also consider Atiku’s prospects in the South when assessing the 2027 presidential contest.
“There is no way in the North that the President will not make 25 per cent. There are so many places in the South that won’t have 10 per cent,” Wike said.
The FCT minister went further to identify some states in the North Central geopolitical zone where he believes President Tinubu would perform strongly.
According to him, Tinubu will win Plateau, Nasarawa, Kwara and Kogi states.
“Let’s take North Central. Who will win in Plateau? The President will take Plateau. He will win Nasarawa. He will win Kwara. He will win Kogi,” he said.
Wike also rejected the argument that the economic hardship currently being experienced by Nigerians would significantly undermine Tinubu’s chances of securing re-election in 2027.
He argued that economic hardship and hunger had never been decisive factors in determining the outcome of presidential elections in Nigeria.
“Is there any election that had no hunger in Nigeria? Mention one election. Even with Buhari’s election, people were talking about insecurity and hunger. Everybody still voted,” he said.
The 2027 presidential election is expected to feature a major contest among leading political figures, with President Tinubu seeking another term and opposition figures, including Atiku and Peter Obi, positioning themselves for the presidency.
