The Anambra State Government has commenced the long-awaited clearance of the Right of Way (RoW) for the 132kV electricity transmission line serving Nnewi and neighbouring communities, ending more than a decade of delay that stalled the strategic power infrastructure project.
The exercise, carried out on the directive of Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, was led by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barr. Chijioke Ojukwu, alongside the Commissioner for Power and Water Resources during an inspection of the project corridor stretching across Umuogbo-Obiofia in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area, and parts of Nnobi in Idemili South Local Government Area.
During the inspection, government officials identified and marked structures encroaching on the approved Right of Way to pave the way for the unhindered construction of the 132kV transmission line, a critical project aimed at strengthening electricity infrastructure in Anambra’s foremost industrial hub.
The transmission project had remained dormant for over 10 years despite its strategic importance to the state’s economic development.
Its revival is expected to significantly improve electricity transmission capacity and address the persistent power challenges confronting industries, businesses, and residents in Nnewi and surrounding communities.
When completed, the project is projected to deliver more reliable power supply, stimulate industrial productivity, boost commercial activities, attract fresh investments, and support the expansion of manufacturing across the state.
Speaking during the exercise, Barr. Ojukwu reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to protecting approved development corridors and enforcing orderly physical planning in line with Governor Soludo’s urban renewal agenda.
He stressed that preserving the Right of Way is essential to the successful execution of critical infrastructure projects that will drive sustainable development across Anambra State.
The renewed effort underscores Governor Soludo’s determination to revive abandoned projects, remove long-standing development bottlenecks, and create an enabling environment for economic growth and private sector investment.
The state government maintained that the 132kV transmission line forms part of its broader vision to deliver sustainable infrastructure capable of accelerating industrialisation, improving the quality of life of residents, and advancing Anambra’s aspiration of becoming a smart, livable, and prosperous homeland.
