Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has expressed sorrow over the death of retired Lieutenant General Chikadibia Isaac Obiakor, describing him as a distinguished son of the state whose service brought honour to Nigeria and Anambra.

Obiakor, who hailed from Awka South Local Government Area, died on May 27, 2026, after a brief illness.

In a condolence message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Soludo said the late military officer was an exemplary leader whose career in the Nigerian Army and international peacekeeping earned him widespread respect.

The governor noted that Obiakor served in key military positions and was Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL). In 2008, he became the first African appointed United Nations Military Adviser for Peacekeeping Operations in New York.

Soludo described him as a patriot, disciplined leader and global icon, saying Anambra had lost a rare gem and source of inspiration. He extended condolences to the Obiakor family and the Nigerian Army.
