With over twenty-six years of experience in university teaching, legal research, and active legal practice spanning Nigeria, the United Kingdom, Scotland, The Bahamas, the British Virgin Islands (BVI), and the Turks & Caicos Islands, Professor Chigbo has carved an enviable niche for himself within the global legal community.

The Nnewi, Anambra State of Nigeria-born lawyer recent admission and call to the Bar of the British Virgin Islands further reinforces his growing international reputation as a transnational legal expert of exceptional standing.

Currently serving as a Professor of Law at Afe Babalola University, Professor Chigbo has continued to make immense contributions to legal education, mentorship, academic administration, and jurisprudential development.

His intellectual influence within the university system has remained profound, particularly in the areas of private law, business law, and international commercial legal studies.

Professor Chigbo began his illustrious legal journey at Ahmadu Bello University, where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B Hons.) degree.

He thereafter attended the Nigerian Law School and was duly called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Determined to expand his legal horizons beyond national boundaries, he pursued advanced legal studies at the University of London where he earned a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree with specialization in Corporate and Commercial Law.

His quest for academic and professional excellence further took him to the University of Aberdeen, where he undertook doctoral research in law.

During this period, he also served as a Tutor at the School of Law, University of Aberdeen from 2007 to 2010, demonstrating his academic depth and commitment to legal scholarship. In addition, he lectured at Robert Gordon University, further establishing his reputation within the United Kingdom’s academic community.

Professor Chigbo’s legal qualifications are truly exceptional and global in scope. He is qualified to practise law in five jurisdictions, an achievement attained by only a select few legal professionals worldwide.

He is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, a Solicitor of England and Wales, a Registered Associate of the Supreme Court of The Bahamas, an Attorney-at-Law (Pro Hac Vice) of the Turks & Caicos Islands, and most recently, on February 9, 2026, he was formally admitted as a Barrister of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court in the Territory of the British Virgin Islands.

This latest professional milestone represents yet another landmark achievement in an already distinguished career. The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court Territory of the Virgin Islands subsequently issued him a practising certificate affirming that Professor Clement Chidi-Ife Chigbo, having been duly registered on the Roll of Legal Practitioners, is entitled to practise as a legal practitioner within the Territory during the year 2026 and the succeeding month of January.

The certificate, dated March 3, 2026, was officially signed by the Registrar, Vareen Vanterpool-Nibbs, and issued with the embossed seal of the Registrar, symbolizing formal recognition of his professional competence and standing within the BVI legal system.

Beyond academia, Professor Chigbo has remained actively engaged in international legal practice and consultancy. He is affiliated with Aumonds Law Firm, formerly known as Brimstone Law Firm, located at 19 Waterfront Drive, Tortola, BVI.

Through the firm, he provides expert legal advisory services in areas including international investment law, commercial transactions, real property law, and conveyancing.

His expertise and reputation also earned him appointment as a Consultant to the Government of the British Virgin Islands on legislative drafting and allied legal matters between 2023 and 2025, a role that further underscores the high level of confidence reposed in his legal intellect and professional judgment at the international level.

As a prolific scholar and accomplished author, Professor Chigbo has contributed significantly to legal literature and jurisprudence through numerous publications in reputable academic journals and authoritative law texts.

Among his notable books are The Laws and Regulations Relating to Business and Investments in the Bahamas, Conveyances, Title Searches and Allied Matters, Company Law and Practice in the Bahamas, and Kaleidoscopic Nature of Tortious Liability, which he co-authored alongside Professor Smaranda E. Olarinde, current Vice Chancellor of Afe Babalola University, and Professor Nnamdi Ikpeze.

His scholarly impact has transcended borders, earning him international recognition including being profiled by the United States-based Law Research Network (LRN) in Los Angeles, California, as one of the world’s 1,500 leading legal experts.
