The Dicastery for the Service of Charity has launched a major humanitarian initiative involving a papal vehicle touring the United States to raise awareness and funds for children impacted by war.
The Popemobile was officially handed over to Michele Sagarino, head of Cross Catholic Outreach, by Archbishop Luis Marín de San Martín. The symbolic gesture marks the start of a nationwide campaign tagged “American Catholic Heroes: The Road Trip for Hope.”
The 3,700-mile journey, scheduled for June and July 2026, will pass through 13 cities from New York to California, combining charity events, prayer gatherings, and a major fundraising auction. Proceeds will support vulnerable children and communities affected by armed conflict worldwide.
Organisers say the Popemobile, dubbed the “Hopemobile”, will serve as a moving symbol of solidarity, drawing attention to humanitarian needs while promoting faith and compassion.
The initiative, originally approved by Pope Francis and supported by Pope Leo XIV, underscores the Church’s commitment to practical charity, especially for the most vulnerable.
