Police nab 49-year-old armed robbery suspect, recover pump-action gun, 50 cartridges in Anambra

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, have arrested a 49-year-old suspected armed robber, Chima Ogumba, and recovered a pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges from him.


The suspect was arrested on the morning of August 17, 2026, along Nkpor Road in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.


According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operatives stormed the identified area and conducted a search on the suspect, leading to the recovery of the firearm and ammunition.


The suspect, the police said, was unable to provide a satisfactory and reasonable explanation for his possession of the firearm and ammunition.


The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, has directed that the suspect be thoroughly investigated to establish his possible involvement in armed robbery and other criminal activities.


The investigation will also determine the source of the recovered firearm and ammunition, as well as their intended use.


CP Oji Ama reiterated the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led operations, proactive policing, targeted patrols and sustained tactical interventions aimed at identifying, disrupting and dismantling criminal networks across the state.


The police urged residents to continue providing credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing and combating crime.
