Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has celebrated his eldest brother, Dominic Ositadimma Obi, on his 75th birthday, describing him as a man whose integrity, humility, contentment and sense of responsibility have remained a shining example to the family.

Obi, in a heartfelt birthday message on Sunday, August 30, 2026, said his celebration of Dominic went beyond their family relationship or the milestone of turning 75, stressing that his elder brother had consistently demonstrated values worthy of emulation.

Reflecting on his eight years as Governor of Anambra State, Obi disclosed that Dominic never visited his office or the Governor’s Lodge to seek personal favours.

According to him, his elder brother, a planner and contractor who builds homes for people, never requested a government contract from him throughout his tenure as governor.

“Whenever we met, he would warmly embrace me and tell me that he was fine,” Obi recalled.

He said Dominic would instead remind him of the enormous responsibility entrusted to him by the people of Anambra State.

“He would solemnly remind me to keep doing what I promised the people and never bring a bad name to the family and my community,” Obi said.

The former Anambra governor further revealed that his brother would often remind him that regardless of whatever personal difficulties he might be experiencing, millions of Nigerians were facing even greater challenges.

He said Dominic consistently encouraged him to remain focused on serving the people and contributing positively to society.

Obi disclosed that he later discovered that his brother’s conduct was not an isolated decision, but part of a deliberate resolution taken by members of the Obi family.

“I later came to understand that this was not peculiar to him alone. My family members had actually held a meeting and resolved that none of them would take advantage of my position as Governor,” he said.

According to Obi, the family resolved to protect the good name he was building for the Obi family and their community of Agulu.

He added that the same principle extended to his children, who were also expected to uphold the family’s values and avoid exploiting his public position.

Obi said Dominic, even at 75, remains deeply interested in the affairs of Nigeria and continues to offer him prayers, counsel and encouragement.

“Whenever we speak, he is full of prayers and good wishes. He constantly reminds me that if I have the opportunity to serve Nigeria, I should do so with honesty, integrity, and the interest of the people at heart,” Obi said.

Expressing gratitude to God for his brother’s life, Obi said Dominic’s character and conduct had left an enduring legacy within the family.

“Brother Dom, I thank God for the gift of your life and for the example you have set for our family. Your integrity, humility, contentment, and sense of responsibility are qualities worthy of celebration,” he said.

He prayed that God Almighty would continue to bless his elder brother with good health, abundant grace and many more years of fulfilment.

“Happy 75th birthday, my dearest brother,” Obi added.
