Peace Warriors Football Club of Awka have emerged winners of the 2025 Tiger Street Football Tournament, which climaxed at the New Berries Power Park, Okpuno, Awka, Anambra State, over the weekend.
After a goalless regulation time, the thrilling final went to penalties, where Peace Warriors held their nerve to defeat Peace Ambassadors 3–1 and claim the maiden title.
The victory capped an impressive run that tested their resilience throughout the tournament.
In the semi-final, they came from behind to draw 1–1 against Sunday Sparks, with Ositadinma James netting a late equaliser before edging the shootout 4–3.
Despite being tagged underdogs, the team’s composure under pressure, converting seven of nine penalties in their last two matches, proved decisive.
Award-winning actor and Tiger Beer Ambassador, Uzor Arukwe, who addressed the finalists, urged them to embrace sportsmanship and see the competition as a springboard to professional football careers.
The Portfolio Manager of Premium Brands, Maria Shadeko, presented trophies and cash prizes of ₦5 million to Peace Warriors, ₦3 million to Peace Ambassadors, and ₦1 million each to Peace Dominion FC and Sunday Sparks FC.
She also handed the Man of the Match Award to Patrick Onyebuchi of Peace Warriors, reaffirming Tiger Beer’s commitment to discovering and nurturing grassroots talent.
Team captain Achonam Ifeatu praised the organisers for spotlighting 5-a-side football, describing it as a vital yet overlooked area of talent discovery.
His counterpart, Michael Dennis of Peace Ambassadors, noted that the tournament helps keep youths engaged and away from social vices.
The event wrapped up with electrifying performances by Jeriq, Wanni x Handi, DJ Snow, DJ Skyblisz, and DJ Kay.y, alongside fan giveaways anchored by Arukwe.
In its maiden edition, the Tiger Street Football Tournament has proven to be more than a game, a bold platform that fuses sport, culture, and courage, transforming local pitches into stages of dreams.
