The Labour Party (LP) senatorial candidate for Anambra Central in the 2027 general election, Amb. Tochukwu Ikezue, has promised proactive and issue-driven representation for the people of the senatorial district if elected.
Ikezue made this known during the party’s State Working Committee meeting at its new office behind the old Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office, Awka, Anambra State.
The meeting brought together the party’s candidates across the state to coordinate preparations for the campaign launch scheduled for November 7, 2026.
The candidate said his campaign team was 100 per cent ready for the flag-off, stressing that his ambition was to provide effective representation for the people rather than merely occupy a seat in the National Assembly.
He promised to dedicate his salary throughout his four-year tenure to youth and women empowerment, while also pledging to protect the interests of persons living with disabilities and speak up for Christian communities facing persecution.
Ikezue said these commitments formed part of his vision for a more responsive representation, adding that his campaign had already generated growing interest, calls and pledges of support from constituents.
He also criticised what he described as inadequate representation of Anambra Central on national issues, citing recent developments in the Senate as an example of situations where, according to him, the district required a more vocal voice.
He said his approach would be different, promising to speak out on issues affecting the people of Anambra Central and to ensure that their interests were adequately presented at the national level.
On the campaign plan, Ikezue said the party would move immediately from the November 7 flag-off into a ward-to-ward mobilisation tour across the seven local government areas of Anambra Central.
The local government areas are Idemili North, Idemili South, Dunukofia, Njikoka, Awka North, Awka South and Anaocha.
He described the grassroots engagement as a critical part of the campaign strategy, saying direct interaction with voters would enable the campaign to communicate its message, mobilise supporters and convert growing interest into votes.
The meeting also confirmed the readiness of the state chapter to host the national campaign flag-off, with national leaders, including the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti and the National Chairman of the party, Senator Nenadi Usman, expected to attend alongside other national officers.
Ikezue also spoke on political developments in Anambra Central, saying there was local alignment between supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and Labour Party.
He expressed support for Peter Obi as the preferred presidential choice for voters in Anambra Central, citing Obi’s connection with the district and his familiarity with the electorate.
He, however, clarified that his position applied specifically to Anambra Central and did not amount to a national directive on the presidential contest.
Ikezue said the focus after the flag-off would be sustained grassroots engagement as he seeks to build support for his senatorial bid across the district.
