Former President Olusegun Obasanjo
The proposed alliance between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso is gaining momentum ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, with both camps reportedly setting up a joint committee to coordinate plans under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Sources say former President Olusegun Obasanjo played a key role in encouraging the alliance and is engaging stakeholders to strengthen the coalition.
Insiders indicate that discussions have progressed beyond initial talks, with both sides open to either candidate leading the ticket.
However, the ADC leadership says it is not formally aware of any alliance, noting that ongoing talks are outside official party structures.
Meanwhile, the camp of Atiku Abubakar has dismissed the development, insisting it poses no threat.
While supporters from both the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya Movements see the alliance as a strong opposition force, internal debates over zoning remain unresolved.
