The Anambra State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) has commissioned its new secretariat office at the Ebere Ofumeamaka Okeke Federal Secretariat Complex, Awka, in a move aimed at strengthening professional coordination and advancing the building profession in the state.
The commissioning, performed by the immediate past Chairman of the chapter, Bldr. Kingsley Nweke, marked a significant milestone in the chapter’s efforts to establish a more functional and accessible administrative base.
Nweke dedicated the facility to God and expressed optimism that the new office would promote greater unity, professional development and growth among builders across Anambra State.
The Nigerian Institute of Building is the professional body representing builders in Nigeria. It promotes professionalism, competence and ethical standards in building construction, while supporting the development of qualified professionals responsible for delivering safe, durable and quality buildings.
Speaking at the event, the current Anambra State Chairman of NIOB, Bldr. Ikenna Okpalla, said the new secretariat would serve as the chapter’s central operational base and provide a more structured platform for members to participate in professional activities.
Okpalla disclosed that the facility would also operate as a joint liaison office for the NIOB Anambra State Chapter and the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON).
According to him, the office would be open from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., thereby improving accessibility, communication and coordination of professional activities.
The NIOB chairman explained the importance of builders to the construction industry, noting that their responsibilities encompass the planning, coordination, supervision and management of building projects to ensure compliance with professional, technical and safety standards.
On the chapter’s forthcoming activities, Okpalla announced tentative plans to hold the 2026 Anambra State Chapter Annual General Meeting in Awka in October.
He called on members to work collectively towards ensuring a successful and well-organised annual meeting before the end of the year.
Members also reviewed the outcome of the recent NIOB Annual General Meeting held in Abuja.
Contributing to the discussion, Bldr. Chiamaka Obiora commended the success of the national gathering despite some logistical challenges, urging members to sustain the momentum as preparations commence for forthcoming activities at the state level.
The event also featured the adoption of the minutes of the previous chapter meeting, presented by the Chapter Secretary, Bldr. Paul Nnanani.
Members subsequently deliberated on issues concerning the growth, administration and effective functioning of the professional body in Anambra State.
The new secretariat is expected to provide a permanent platform for professional coordination, member engagement and the advancement of quality building practice in the state.
