The Chairman of Onitsha Main Market, Michael Chijioke Okpalaugo, has pledged to collaborate with the Anambra State Christian Pilgrims Office to encourage traders to participate in Christian pilgrimage programmes.
Okpalaugo made the commitment when the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Pilgrims Affairs, Office of the Deputy Governor, Hon. Barr. Odira Ezeh, led officials of the Christian Pilgrims Office on a courtesy visit to the market leadership.
Ezeh commended Okpalaugo for his efforts in maintaining peace and coordination among traders and appealed to the market leadership to mobilise eligible traders for the forthcoming pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan.
He said pilgrimage goes beyond a spiritual journey, offering opportunities for spiritual renewal, cultural exchange, human development and religious tourism. He also disclosed that preparations were underway for an Anambra State Christian Pilgrims Summit to educate residents on the significance of pilgrimage.
Responding, Okpalaugo expressed readiness to work with government institutions on programmes beneficial to traders and the wider community.
“Anything that has to do with the government, we will always like to align with it, and I will like to work with you on this programme,” he said.
