Security in Anambra: Police arrest prime suspect in murder of pregnant nurse in Ogbunike

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a prime suspect in connection with the gruesome murder of a pregnant nurse in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of the state.


The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Chibunna Nwafor, popularly known as “Offonwadile,” was apprehended on February 11, 2026, at his hideout in Umueri community following sustained intelligence-driven operations and collaboration with members of the public.


The victim, a pregnant nurse whose mutilated body was discovered in Ogbunike, had sparked widespread outrage and fear within the community, prompting intensified security efforts across the area.


Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the arrest was made possible through credible information provided by residents and coordinated investigative strategies deployed by the Command.


The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, commended members of the community for their cooperation and timely intelligence, describing their support as instrumental to the breakthrough.


He reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that all those involved in the heinous crime are identified, apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law.


The police authorities disclosed that the suspect has been handed over to a higher investigative formation for discreet and thorough investigation, while efforts are ongoing to track down other accomplices.


The Command assured the public that further updates would be communicated as investigations progress.
