Former National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh, on Thursday, November 27, 2025, began a series of charitable activities in Nnewi, Anambra State, to mark his 60th birthday, an anniversary he chose to celebrate by giving hope to the less privileged.

The day’s events commenced at his Otolo Nnewi residence and proceeded to the palace of His Royal Highness, Igwe Kenneth Orizu III, the traditional ruler of Nnewi. There, Chief Metuh received royal blessings and formally expressed his commitment to using his milestone birthday to uplift those in need.

He said that at 60, giving back to society had become a defining priority for him.

From the palace, the entourage moved to Iwene Tansi People’s Home, a charity facility managed by the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi. The celebrant donated food items and other essentials to support the welfare of the residents.

He assured the management that his support would be continuous and extended beyond material items.

A major highlight of the day was his visit to the Nnewi Correctional Centre, where he donated food supplies, drinks and other consumables to aid the upkeep of inmates.

Addressing the inmates, Chief Metuh spoke from personal experience, reminding them that setbacks do not define the future.

“I have come to celebrate my 60th birthday with you. I was once like you. Do not see your incarceration as the end of your journey. Always think about the positive things you can do after here.

“Be well-behaved. You can become a politician tomorrow or rise to high positions in society. Nothing can stop you from becoming what you want, with hard work and determination,” he encouraged.

In an unprecedented gesture, Chief Metuh announced that he would drill a borehole for the facility and construct a skills acquisition centre, once approved by the authorities, to help inmates reintegrate into society with employable skills.

He also pledged full university scholarships for five inmates and promised to pay the fines of those who were given the option of fine but could not afford it.

“We have come to give you hope, and that is the greatest gift we bring today,” he said.

The humanitarian tour continued at the Home for the Physically Challenged located at the Diocesan Church Centre (DCC), Nkwo Nnewi. There, Chief Metuh made one of his most significant donations of the day, ₦2.5 million, dozens of wheelchairs, and large quantities of food items to support them.

He assured them of continued assistance.

“I have come with a message of hope. I believe in a better tomorrow for everyone here. After my birthday, I will return to listen to your concerns and provide further support, ”he added.

Receiving the donations on behalf of the Diocese, Rev. Canon Josiah Ezeh expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting that Chief Metuh’s gesture would make a profound difference in the lives of the physically challenged.

Representing the Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Ndubisi Obi, he offered prayers for Metuh, asking God to grant him long life, good health, and sustained prosperity.

Chief Metuh’s 60th birthday celebration stood out not for lavish parties, but for the compassion and hope he extended to the most vulnerable, an example, many observed, of leadership grounded in empathy and service.
