Nnewi North Local Government Area,Anambra State celebrated Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary on October 1st in a colourful and grand ceremony that brought together students, traditional rulers, stakeholders and political leaders across the area.
The event, held at the council headquarters, was led by the Mayor of Nnewi North, Hon. Echezona Anazodo, accompanied by his deputy and other key government officials. Students from various schools in the LGA participated in the march past, which also featured cultural displays by women and a prize presentation to outstanding schools and performers.
Speaking to journalists, Hon. Anazodo described the celebration as a “successful and fulfilling” event, reflecting the unity and progress achieved during his administration. He noted that although the journey in office over the past year had not been without challenges, his team remained focused on development and results.
“Within one year, we have made every day count based on our philosophy of service delivery. It hasn’t been easy, but we are determined to make a visible impact. That is why this celebration is special for us,” Anazodo said.
He praised the atmosphere of peace and cooperation within the LGA, attributing the administration’s success to the unity among the people. “We could not have achieved this much without peace. Peace is the foundation of every meaningful development,” he said.
The mayor also used the opportunity to encourage the residents of Nnewi North to participate in upcoming programmes, including health-focused initiatives championed by the wife of the Anambra State Governor. “Exercise is essential for healthy living, and I urge all to get involved,” he said.
On the forthcoming November 8 gubernatorial election, Anazodo expressed confidence in the governor’s re-election bid, stating that Nnewi North is fully in support. “His Excellency has made our job easy. His achievements speak for him, and by God’s grace, we are committed to ensuring his return.”
The mayor also extended special birthday wishes to HRH Igwe Kenneth Orizu III, who recently marked his 100th birthday and 60th year on the throne. He described the monarch as a symbol of peace, wisdom, and continuity, urging residents to emulate his lifestyle and legacy.
Reflecting on his personal motivation, Anazodo credited divine grace, his family, and the people of Nnewi for the strength to deliver on his mandate. “God has been faithful. I am also driven by the determination to disappoint those who expect us to fail,” he said.
He called for continued support from all sectors, including the media, to sustain the developmental strides in Nnewi North.
Just as Augustine Emmanuel Jidiofor praised the mayor Nnewi North hon. Echezona Anazodo for the wonderful work within a year in office and promised to continue in supporting him then urged the entire Nnewi North to support Mr Governor comes November 8 because he is doing well and Nnewi has benefited from his past administration.
The Independence celebration ended with the presentation of trophies and prizes to winners of the children’s match past and cultural performances, adding colour and excitement to the historic day.
