*As Monarch prays for peace

Leadership, tradition and unity took centre stage as the ancient Utuh Mbadike community in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State marked its annual new yam festival under the leadership of its traditional ruler, His Royal Highness Igwe Peter Ilomuanya,( Eze Onyeodiri II).

The monarch, a revered custodian of culture and peace, led the community in prayers for divine protection, prosperity, and continued harmony.
Addressing the gathering, Igwe Ilomuanya reaffirmed his commitment to preserving the cultural legacy of Utuh, describing the festival as a sacred tradition inherited from their forefathers.
He noted that the new yam festival is more than a celebration of harvest, adding that it is a symbol of the people’s identity as a proud, united community with a rich cultural heritage.
He called on indigenes to uphold unity and highlighted the importance of cultural events in strengthening community bonds and fostering development.
Demonstrating inclusive and appreciative leadership, the Igwe publicly acknowledged and thanked individuals and groups both at home and abroad who contributed financially and some other ways to the success of the celebration.
Echoing the monarch’s sentiments, Mr Agbasi Solomon, Chairman of Diamond Club Utuh, praised God for the peaceful festival and lauded Igwe Ilomuanya’s leadership, praying for his long life and sound health to continue guiding the community with wisdom.
Prince Okonna Mbanefo, the palace secretary, described the 2025 celebration as the most elaborate in recent years, attributing its success to increased participation and community support.
He expressed optimism that next year’s edition would be even more impactful.
Also speaking, Mr Ignatius Ofodi, President-General of Utuh Mbadike, hailed Igwe Ilomuanya’s leadership style, describing the festival as a reflection of unity, vision, and collective pride. He appreciated all sons and daughters of Utuh who played roles in organizing and supporting the event.
The festival featured traditional dances, masquerade displays, and communal feasting, all of which reinforced Utuh’s commitment to preserving its rich Igbo heritage.
With culture as a rallying point and purposeful leadership at the helm, Utuh continues to uphold its traditions while fostering unity and progress.
