The Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, has commenced a two-day interview exercise for prospective employees as part of efforts to fill vacant positions created by staff retirements, relocations and voluntary exit.

The exercise, which began on Tuesday, January 20, is supervised by the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, who personally shortlisted approved names of qualified candidates.

Addressing the applicants, Dr. Awuzie explained that although many candidates were invited for the interview, yet, not all would eventually be employed.

She noted that the recruitment process was designed to be transparent and fair, while also ensuring that the polytechnic operates within its approved financial limits.

Speaking to journalists at the interview venue, the Acting Registrar of the institution, Chief Dominic Nwagwu, said the recruitment exercise became necessary following the emergence of several vacancies in the polytechnic.

He explained that the vacancies resulted from staff retirements, voluntary exits, deaths and relocations, which created gaps in the workforce.

According to him, the Rector sought and obtained approval from the Federal Ministry of Education to recruit new staff to address the manpower needs of the institution.

He added that the vacant positions were advertised in the Daily Sun of October 8, 2025, while the application process lasted until November 19, 2025, in order to ensure openness and transparency.

Chief Nwagwu, however, emphasized that despite the approval granted, the number of candidates that could be employed remained limited to the quota approved by the Federal Ministry of Education.

Officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Federal Character Commission monitored the two-day interview exercise to ensure compliance with due process.
