The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued an unidentified mentally challenged woman and her newborn baby girl in Kwali Area Council, Abuja.
The incident occurred in the early hours of April 3, 2026, when officers of the Rapid Response Squad on patrol discovered the woman shortly after she delivered by the roadside in Kwaita Village.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Gender Unit of the Kwali Division responded swiftly, evacuating both mother and child to General Hospital, Kwali, where they received medical attention and were later discharged in stable condition.
The police subsequently handed them over to the Kwali Area Council welfare office, after which they were relocated to the FCT Children’s Home in Gwagwalada for care and support.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, commended the officers for their prompt response and professionalism, noting their compassion in handling the situation.
He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report emergencies or vulnerable persons to security agencies.
