As the Anambra State local government election draws closer, an indigene of Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Engr. Augustine Ejibendu, has declared his intention to contest for the Chairmanship of Idemili South LGA under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Speaking to journalists on Sunday, Hon. Engr. Ejibendu, popularly known as Igada Oba, said his aspiration is driven by the need to ensure transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance, as well as equitable distribution of democratic dividends across the council area.

He disclosed that he would run a people-oriented administration anchored on a 7-point development agenda.

Ejibendu said his administration would deliver capital projects in all the 12 political wards of Idemili South in line with the 2025 budget, explaining that at least one capital project would be executed in each ward without exception.

He noted that this approach would strengthen grassroots development and enhance effective representation by councilors.

He further stated that priority would be given to the rehabilitation and grading of rural roads to improve inter-ward connectivity, as well as the installation of solar-powered streetlights and boreholes.

On security, he assured that his administration would work closely with the Anambra State Government and relevant agencies to protect lives and property in the area.

In the education sector, Ejibendu pledged to introduce scholarship schemes for indigent pupils and students to improve academic standards, while the health sector would receive attention through the provision and upgrade of health centers with adequate facilities and personnel, in line with the State Government’s health programmes.

He also emphasized youth and women empowerment, describing them as critical to economic growth and crime reduction.

According to him, his administration would leverage the State Government’s one youth, two skills programme to implement local empowerment initiatives.

He added that agriculture would be boosted to strengthen the local economy and promote food sufficiency in the council area.

Ejibendu assured that the 7-point agenda would be faithfully implemented to ensure that the people of Idemili South enjoy the full dividends of democracy.

A long-time member of APGA, Hon. Engr. Ejibendu has held several political and administrative positions, including Special Assistant to former Governor Peter Obi, Personal Assistant to former Governor Willie Obiano, Councilor in Idemili South LGA, Party Organizing Secretary, Convener of Oganiru Idemili Movement, and Secretary-General of Oba Community.

He assured that his administration would ensure fairness and equity in the distribution of democratic dividends across the seven communities of Oba, Akwa-Ukwu, Ojoto, Alor, Nnobi, Awka-Etiti, and Nnokwa if elected chairman of the council.
