The African Action Congress (AAC) has condemned the remand of its presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, describing reports of his alleged manhandling in court as disturbing.

In a statement, the party’s Deputy National Chairperson (South East), Chioma Ifemeludike, called on authorities to respect Sowore’s fundamental rights and ensure fair treatment throughout the judicial process.

According to her, the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered Sowore’s remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre following proceedings in his ongoing trial.

Ifemeludike said all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, deserve due process and protection under the law. She urged authorities to conduct the proceedings transparently and in line with democratic principles.

The AAC reaffirmed its commitment to democracy, human rights, and freedom of expression, warning that suppressing dissent could weaken public confidence in democratic institutions.
