Anambra to use Geophysical Survey to identify, analyse mineral deposits, hazards

As part of efforts to upgrade the solid minerals sector of the State, Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited (ASSMDCL) and Nigeria Geological Survey Agent (NGSA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to identify and analyse existence of solid minerals deposits in the State.

This agreement session between ASSMDCL and NGSA is for the training of staff members, development and cooperation in the field of Geology, provision of an institutional framework for the exchange of scientific and technical knowledge whilst improving technical and Geological expertise.

In his speech, shortly after signing, the MoU, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ASSMDCL, Professor Charles Ofoegbu disclosed that the partnership between the two agencies would help in capacity building, training of his staff on software, surveys, laboratory analysis and map production.


Ofoegbu who is also the Chairman of Anambra State Petroleum Resources Limited (ASPERL) said that his company would stand to benefit from the experience and the use of Geophysical survey to analyse the existence of mineral deposits, identification and recommendation of actions to prevent Geohazards, sharing of Geoscientific data, Field mapping, among others.


In addition, the MoU provides for recommendations to prevent Geohazards, sharing of Geoscientific data and Field mapping, among others.

In his remarks on the agreement, the Director General of the Nigeria Geological Survey Agency(NGSA), Prof. Olusegun Ige, said that the move is a welcome development, as it would help foster the needed progress in carrying out detailed geological investigations for the growth of both agencies and the nation at large.
