Anambra CP orders 48-hour manhunt for killers of Police officers

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a statewide manhunt for gunmen responsible for the killing of two police officers along the Amansea-Ufuma Road.

Speaking during an emergency security meeting at the state police command headquarters, Orutugu directed all operational units to track down and arrest the perpetrators within 48 hours.

He described the attack as unacceptable and vowed that those behind the killings would face justice.

“I want immediate action to apprehend those responsible. The people of Anambra must know that the police are fully in charge and ready to protect them,” he said.

The CP also launched “Operation Fish Them Out,” aimed at combating criminal activities across the state, particularly on the Amansea-Ufuma Road, which he described as a hotspot for criminal operations.

Orutugu warned residents to remain vigilant, noting that some criminals now disguise themselves in security uniforms to carry out unlawful activities.

The attack occurred on Sunday night when gunmen ambushed the convoy of the Chief of Staff to Governor Ben Nwankwo along the Amansea-Ufuma Road. Two police officers and several civilians were reportedly killed, while Nwankwo escaped unharmed.

The police commissioner assured residents that the command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property and expressed confidence that significant breakthroughs would be recorded soon.
