Amichi agog, as Igwe Oforbike Ezeoke celebrates 2025 new yam festival

Amichi community in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State came alive today, Sunday, August 31, 2025, as its traditional ruler, Igwe Alphonsus Oforbike Ezeoke, led indigenes, friends, and well-wishers in the celebration of the annual New Yam Festival.

The event, held with splendor and rich cultural display, showcased the resilience of Igbo tradition and the unity of the Amichi people.

Igwe Ezeoke, revered as a custodian of culture and a voice for freedom of religion and expression, has continued to uphold the values of his community while strengthening bonds of peace and progress.

The colorful festival attracted dignitaries from within and outside Anambra State, including Chief Akai Egwuonwu, a philanthropist, APGA chieftain, political strategist, and cabinet member of the Igwe; other members of the Igwe-in-Council; as well as the traditional ruler of Akwaihedi community, Igwe Col Onebunne, among many others.

The celebration featured traditional dances, music, and other cultural displays that highlighted the significance of yam as the king of crops in Igbo land.
