COMMENTARY: Frustration Leads To Fury As Economic Hardship Sweeps The Masses Like Desert Wind

 By David Onwuchekwa

The growing economic hardship in Nigeria is fast becoming a ticking time bomb. Each day, the poor sink deeper into poverty, caught in the stranglehold of inflation, unemployment, and a failing economy.

While the elite seem largely insulated from the harsh realities on the streets, the masses are gasping for survival, with little to no support from those in power.

Prices of essential commodities have soared beyond the reach of ordinary citizens, and wages remain stagnant or nonexistent. Many families can no longer afford basic needs like food, healthcare, education, or even shelter.

The gap between the rich and the poor is widening at an alarming rate, creating a dangerous level of socioeconomic imbalance.

Unfortunately, political leaders continue to play the waiting game, offering lip service while the people groan under the weight of suffering.

But this silence and inaction can only last so long. A hungry man, as the saying goes, is an angry man. Desperation can lead to unrest, and history has shown that revolutions are often born out of hunger and hopelessness.

It is high time Nigerian leaders woke up to the realities of the common man. The urgency to implement robust economic reforms that directly impact the lives of the poor cannot be overstated.

Policies must go beyond boardrooms and elite conversations; they must reach the grassroots. Social safety nets, job creation, food security initiatives, and support for small businesses are crucial steps towards restoring hope.

This is not the time for politics as usual. The cries of the masses are loud and clear. The time to act is now, before frustration gives way to fury. Leaders must remember: power is a trust, and the people are watching.
