Diocese of Ogbaru holds advent ordination as families, friends, well-wishers celebrate newly ordained deacons ,priests

The Basilica of St. James the Great Cathedral, Atani in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State was filled to its capacity on Sunday, 30 November 2025, as the Diocese of Ogbaru (Where God Reigns), Anglican Communion, held its Advent ordination of deacons and priests.

The ordination was conducted by the Lordship, Rt. Rev’d Prosper Amah (JP), Bishop of Ogbaru Diocese.

Rt. Rev’d Amah ordained deacons and priests and charged them to possess the Holy Spirit, take authority from the word of God and proclaim the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to mankind. He urged them to be exemplary men of God in order to fulfill the divine call upon them, admonishing Christians to show great interest in the work of God and humanity. He emphasized the need to “hold the faith and fight a good fight of faith.”

The 4 deacons and 3 priests ordained were Rev’d Angus Uchenna Okoye from Ugbenu Awka North LGA, Rev’d
Uchenna Izuchukwu Abazu from Umudara Ihiala,Rev’d Egemole Livinus Onuwakwe from Ihioma Orlu, Rev’d Ejikeme Divine Abatam from Igboukwu,Rev’d Echezona Oranusi from Oba, Rev’d Abazuonu Ikechukwu from Ogberuru Orlu and Rev’d Wisdom Izuchukwu Mordi from Abala Obodo.
Speaking in an interview with the press, they described the ordination as a great blessing, a thing of joy and an act of gratitude to God. They expressed appreciation to God and to the diocese, especially the Lordship Rt. Rev’d Prosper Amah (JP), for finding them worthy. They prayed that God would put smiles on their faces and pledged to uphold the faith and preach it.

Dr. Daniel Obi expressed their joy at witnessing the ordination.

They wished the newly ordained clerics a happy journey in the ministry they have embraced and prayed for God’s strength upon them. They also wished them all the blessings and good things that come with ordination, expressing confidence that they would fulfill their ministry.

Highlights of the event included photograph sessions with the Bishop, deacons, priests, clergy and their wives, as well as the presence of a legal luminary. Guests were entertained by the ordination candidates at their respective sections, with music and trumpeting by musicians to mark the 2025 celebration within the cathedral church premises.
