The race for the 2027 general election in Anambra South Senatorial District is beginning to gather momentum, and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Samben Nwosu, has fired what many observers see as an early political statement of intent.
Following the publication of his credentials by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nwosu has taken his campaign beyond celebration, unveiling what he describes as a vision anchored on accessible leadership, grassroots participation and people-centred representation.
Rather than focusing solely on political rhetoric, the PDP standard-bearer presented himself as a leader determined to remain close to the electorate.
He promised that, if elected, he would maintain an open-door policy, listen to the concerns of constituents and place their welfare, security and prosperity above every other consideration.
His message reflects a growing demand among voters for representatives who are visible, accountable and responsive to the needs of the people.
A major highlight of his declaration was a passionate appeal to eligible voters across the seven local government areas of Anambra South to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing the PVC as the most powerful instrument for democratic change.
According to him, the 2027 election presents an opportunity for the people to redefine the future of the district by electing a senator committed to service rather than politics.
Nwosu also used the occasion to issue a direct challenge to the PDP chairmen in Aguata, Ekwusigo, Ihiala, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Orumba North and Orumba South.
He described them as the backbone of the party’s grassroots machinery and urged them to close ranks, strengthen unity and embark on aggressive mobilisation from the ward level to every community across the district.
Calling on party faithful to put aside internal differences, he insisted that victory in 2027 would depend largely on a united front and sustained engagement with the electorate.
Political analysts believe the statement signals the beginning of what could become an intensely contested senatorial race in Anambra South, with mobilisation, voter participation and grassroots organisation expected to shape the outcome.
For now, Prince Samben Nwosu has thrown down the gauntlet with a message centred on hope, unity and inclusive representation. Whether that message resonates with voters will become clearer as political activities gather pace toward the 2027 elections.
